Step 1: The Problem... At most traffic lights and turn signals, you will notice a loop of wire buried in the pavement of the road near the stop line. This is called an Inductive-loop traffic detector that operates by sensing a change in frequency to the electromagnetic field over the coil of wire. In other words, when a car pulls up, it senses ...

Triggering Traffic Signals With A Bicycle | Bicycle Universe

If you want to trigger the traffic lights with 100% certainty, simply get off the bike and lay the front wheel of the cycle flat over the loop towards one corner for a second or two. The rim of a cycle wheel acts like a big short circuited turn of wire and used in this way will produce a bigger signal than most automobiles do.

Does it work - Traffic Signal Trigger with Neodymium Magnet

The link explains it, but "In short, it is purely the size and net conductivity of an automobile that makes it easier to detect than a bicycle." Magnet won't have an effect on it. Not sure what a magnet would do near an engine, probably wouldn't affect it too much.. Put your front tire on the front-side of the loop (and if you can your rear on the rear-side of it).

The Motorcycle Magnet Myth (Traffic Trigger Tall tale?)

As another member recently shared, many riders have heard about using ultra powerful magnets to increase the chance that your bike can safely trigger traffic lights to change. Unfortunately, this is a myth. Read on to understand why no amount of magnets make a difference. TL;DR. Loops are affected my ferromagnetic materials NOT magnetic material.
