  Love coming here and have been a number of times but since moving have been riding mostly at Arthurs Seat so haven't been for about a year. Trails are lovely, nice horses, staff are ok depending on who takes you and if you want to have a conversation or not and require the customer service thing. Paul's great and a couple of the girls are good. As it's fairly slow to start with on the 2 hour ride it is good to have a chat to staff as I usually go by myself. I did go out once with a young boy who had absolutely no conversational skills so it was extremely boring as I think I was the only one on the 2 hour ride. Minor criticism. Have to agree with Mike - the toilet facilities are pretty ordinary but I've actually been to worse believe it or not! It was good value before they put their prices up by $20 a couple of years ago and now I guess it's still pretty low if you compare to beach rides but on a par with most other places. I'm not blaming them - horses are expensive and so is insurance! Ride does vary depending on what type of riders are there. The 2 hour ride is meant to be for experienced only but I've been and had complete beginners on it so have hardly cantered at all but other times have had lots of canters. Really do like it here and will be back as soon as I can to ride Clancy! Very quiet little horse but he will move if you want him to and just love that solid little neck in front of me!

  $60 for an hour, easy access plenty of parking. Min 12 years old. The only thing I rate it at 4 instead of 5 is the ride was slow, my DD got paid up with some first timers which squirm at any movement so the ride kept stopping every few minutes. Would have been ok i they let my DD do 2 hours of riding but they only allow her to do one hour ago she spent one third of the time holding her horse still. Only got to trot about 5 minutes all up. The rest of the time just either slow walk or stop. You have to go with the pick of luck who you are stuck with on the day. Sort of a pot luck thing and my DD really want to be able to canter at least one part of the ride. Also it was not a full hour. They supposed to start at 1:30, they finally left at 1:53 and came back 2:49.
  
  The girls are lovely but a bit over kill to have 2 guides with 4 riders. But they are lovely.

  Staff is very nice, supportive and friendly. My family and I enjoyed a first time ride with beautiful magical forest sceneries. I loved the whole experience! Unforgettable one!!

Alan Smallacombe Trail rides were established in 1958 and have been offering rides to the public ever since. Rides depart every weekend (except Christmas weekend) at 10:00am and 1:30pm; the rides leave from 205 Sheffield Rd Montrose and wind throughout the many tracks of the Doongalla Estate Reserve & the Dandenong Rangers National Park.
