  I always had a dream of being 'discovered' by singing on stage. The thing is I love to sing but the thought of performing in front of an audience brought up so much fear about not being good enough, which was enough to stop me ever doing a thing about singing.
  
  Singing in a group or chorus was going to be a way for me to learn to sing better, and gain some confidence. I reasearched choirs in Melbourne, and I found most of them to either have challenging auditions designed for experienced singers, or they were so old fashioned.
  
  I eventually discovered Melbourne Contemporary Choir through a local ad. As the name suggests, they sing modern music that we hear on the radio, do performances and even original music.
  
  In 15 seconds of courage I contacted Jason and agreed to go to a try out session in the next week. What a welcoming bunch Jason and the choir members were! Super friendly and helpful to a first time visitor.
  
  I joined up in December and was fortunate enough to be able to have my first on-stage performance with the team at an event with an audience of 10,000!! That was one good chance to get over any nerves.
  
  Since then I have been going to the weekly evening rehearsals and practicing for several upcoming performances. We sing contemporary and modern classics, as well as a number of songs written for the choir and also do studio recordings of our music.
  
  Jason Simmonds is our Creative Director and so engaging and knowledgable. We have a really relaxed and fun singing environment, and if you are like me and don't read music, we get given recordings of our parts to practice st home or in the car. We also have expert conductors and musicians come and conduct masterclasses throughout the year.
  
  It's my favourite thing to do during the week, I just love it +++
