A great place that they keep improving. Lovely plants, trees and flowers in bloom. Especially worth visiting is the Japanese garden with all its water and other features, and the conservatory with its colourful orchids and water fountain. Great place for photos. The cafe is also excellent with great views and good food and drinks. Highly recommended if visiting Hobart.
I thoroughly enjoyed the gardens, it almost has a magical quality to it, I've been there in two of the seasons and I honestly just cannot wait for the season to change so I get to experience it all over again.
It does have toilets, it is free although donations are appreciated and it has a huge eatable section that just fills me with joy being able to take my knowledge and expand and taste. Also it has a special sub Antarctic garden you need to see to believe very cool, pun intended.
A lovely place to wander through at any time of year. There is a café/restaurant as well as a kiosk for ice creams etc and a lovely gift shop. My favourite parts are the perennial borders and the vegetable gardens but I don’t think you can go wrong wherever you choose to go. You can easily spend a few hours here if you love plants and peace and quiet.
I am not a garden person and am visiting from Canada. The garden is well laid out, with specific locations for plants from a large variety of regions. Good labelling for people like myself with some background in spots for some of the sections. The garden is a great walk, some shade, some full sun. Had to ask someone in the restaurant to call a cab. They were happy to help even though we were not going to patronize the restaurant. Very generous. I should note for visitors that this is a volunteer garden and is a pay what you can place. My experience would say go even if you have only a slight interest in gardens. For me, more of the background information would add to the interest.
One of the best botanical gardens I've been to, with a large variety of garden 'rooms' and styles, including my favourite, the sub-antarctic room, filled with vegetation found on Macquarie Island. Beautiful specimen trees also. The cafe was absurdly expensive though, we went elsewhere for lunch after seeing those prices, and donated directly to the gardens instead.
